Claims for damages

Damage claims resulting from the following events are typically not eligible for compensation from FortisBC or its contractors:

      • severe weather conditions
      • fallen trees or branches
      • animal contact with our equipment
      • planned outages
      • motor vehicle accidents
      • unexpected equipment failure
      • power surges or voltage issues

Do not throw away damaged items until a decision has been made. FortisBC may request items for inspection to validate your claim as part of its assessment.

If you have auto or property insurance, you may want to contact your agent or broker to find out if your losses are covered. They may be able to process your claim quicker and provide full replacement costs. Please note that if your claim is deemed eligible, FortisBC only pays the depreciated value of your losses.
